Would you like to join the Farnham Assemblies and Schools Team

Popularly known as the “FAST” team, we are a group of people from different churches who enjoy taking assemblies and RE lessons into primary schools in Farnham. Under the umbrella of the Farnham Christian Community Trust, the group has grown since its origins in the year 2000, when its main aim was to produce quality Christian assemblies.

All members of the team are responding to the feeling that God is calling them to make a small difference in the lives of children who may not otherwise hear the Christian message from Christians. Assemblies are generally only about 20 minutes long and can be plays, puppet shows, power-point presentations, talks with props, or a mixture of the above. Lessons are prepared and led by experienced teachers in the team and generally have a taught input followed by drama or a craft activity – which can be quite gluey! The children love the lessons because they are different, and the teachers enjoy others having an input for a change.

Now the group has grown and having just recovered from more Christmas assemblies and lessons than they could count, is preparing for Easter. The group has a tradition of drawing upon volunteers who feel they would like to help from time to time with the lessons and/or in the assemblies. There are a number of tasks that volunteers can be involved in; if helping out in a classroom with a craft activity is not your thing, may be you can help with the preparation and cutting out of shapes and material for crafts beforehand. Maybe you are a good reader and would like to narrate a play for an assembly, or maybe, you enjoy acting and would like to be in a play.

Volunteers can be of any age – Grannies and Grandads are most welcome! (and so are Dads). No volunteer is ever expected to do anything they do not want to do, and they only give the time they have available, even if it is just one lesson or assembly every half term.

If you feel that any of the above is your calling, or you would like to find out more, such as watch the team in action, without any obligation, please do email Carol at carol@fcct.org.uk or ring the Trust offices during working hours on 01252 714414 and ask to speak to the FAST team.
