Walk of Witness
Churches Together in Farnham
Invite you to join them in a
WALK OF WITNESS
Witness to your Christian Faith by wlking on the streets of Farnham
The Walk of Witness through Farnham Town Centre departs at 12 noon from The Hart, beside the University College for the Creative Arts, finishing outside St Andrew's Church for a short service at approx 12.45pm.
24-3
I just want to express my thanks to everyone who supported the YOUTH PRAISE service and 24-3 prayer event that we ran from Sun 17th - Wed 20th February, at St James' Rowledge.
It was a privilege to see so many people praying and enjoying their praying! Highlights for me were praying with Jayne Staite in the church from 2-3am for our persecuted brothers and sisters in Pakistan and praying through dance down the church aisle, one afternoon and seeing others feeling 'allowed' to actually pray like this too! Thank you God for creativity! Becca Marsh

A Very Special Moment!
Sometimes there is a moment in time which you would want to freeze and never to loose. I was privileged to encounter such a moment the other day, I wish I could share the moment but unfortunately I can only write about it and hope that you might in some small way know why it was so special.
We were in a school classroom full of 7-8 year olds, we were there with the lesson ‘The Bible as a sacred book’. Following a powerpoint presentation about the history and books in the Bible given by Maggie and a session with Linda about the stories found and how to use and read the Bible the children were then given a Bible of their own. Such excitement as each received his/her own Bible – the room was electric.
Giving the children their own Bible was very special in itself! We went on to give each child a bookmark – nothing special, printed in house with the Lord’s Prayer on one side and a Bible related picture to colour in on the other.
This was the moment! In the midst of all the noise and excitement I saw a boy look at his book mark, read it, then put his hands together in praying form, bow his head and obviously reading from the bookmark, he prayed. At the end of the prayer he visibly said ‘Amen’ and then joined the rest of the class in looking through his Bible and sharing the various things he found with the other children on the table.
These are the moments when you know that there is no other job in the world which would give you such a special moment, when you know that you are where you would wish to be.
This is not a story written for advertisement or for a plea for volunteers but it could be – if you would like to maybe come upon such a moment (but believe me they don’t happen every day) then why not think about becoming a volunteer for the Farnham Assemblies and Schools Team, OR if you would like to support giving a child a Bible then the contact details are on the front of this newsletter and my name is Joan Wilcock, I would love to hear from you.

ASSISTing the Growth!

A Christian initiative serving
Farnham's Senior Citizens
Over the last few months, we have experienced considerable growth in many areas of Farnham
ASSIST . It is a joy to welcome new folk along to our activities, enjoying conversations with them and seeing them make new friends.
The Pie & Pint Club which used to attract between 6 - 10 people to each venue, now regularly has up to 15 people. The Saturday Hale Lunch has been full for a considerable time and the Sunday Central Lunch at the Gostrey Centre is approaching capacity, catering for nearly 80 people (including volunteers) each month. There is a waiting list for places on Understanding Computers, even though we now have six volunteer tutors each week, and the numbers coming to the Praise & Worship services at the Gostrey Centre continue to increase. As from February, we are facilitating Praise & Worship teams going into the Abbeyfield homes at Hatch Mill and Wey Valley House.
We give thanks to God for each one of these exciting opportunities but they also present a challenge – we need extra volunteers to cope with this demand. We believe that God is calling us to branch out into new areas as well. All of this means that there are opportunities for you to share in this work, possibly in one (or more!) of these ways:
Sunday Lunches:
- Helping serve and clear away, just for 2 hours, once every couple of months or so (and you won’t miss your Sunday lunch, as you can enjoy our excellent roast lunch instead!)
- Some of our clients are confined to wheelchairs and need to be pushed to and from nearby Falkner Court
- is this something you or your church could take on, for an hour each month or two?
Minibus Drivers:
Praise & Worship services:
One to One:
Clients, many of whom are housebound as well as living on their own, really look forward to the regular visit of their
ASSIST volunteer. Is this something you would like more information on – could you spare a couple of hours each week to visit someone?
And, for the future, ........
- We are prayerfully considering many new things (including areas such as Bible Study groups, “Tea and a Talk” etc.) and we are seeking God’s will for our future plans. Is God calling you to be part of this work? Do you have a heart for older folk? We would love to talk to you, share with you and hear what is on your heart.
- We are also looking to set up a prayer group to pray for the current and future work with Senior Citizens in Farnham. If you would like to be part of this group, or would like more information, please do not hesitate to get in touch.
We can be reached by phone on 01252 316550
or email on info@farnhamassist.org.uk.
We look forward to hearing from you!

Dear All
We would like to invite you all to an evening about our mission work on Friday 7th March at Weydon Christian Centre, Upper Way, Farnham
GU9 8RL at 7.30pm with light refreshments for 8pm start.
We will give a summary of all the wonderful things which were achieved last year and share our dreams and plans for 2008 including details of our next visit to directly after Easter to run Kairos courses in
Rio de Janeiro and
Uberlandia .
We realise that the journey to Farnham may be impossible for many of our friends who do not live in the area but would ask you to pray for the evening and to look at our web site for more information www.bridgeforthenations.org.uk.
