CursoKairos, Brasil March/April 2008
We wanted to send a brief update and photos from our recent visit. Thanks for all your prayers and emails. The trip went really well and we made good progress with our plans. One amazing answer to prayer was that we avoided any bites from Dengue mosquitoes – in the midst of a raging epidemic in Rio!
This photo was taken in the Prayer Tower in Goiania.
Between 6- 12th April we ran a second course in Apascentar Church in Jacarepagua, Rio de Janeiro. It gave us an opportunity to train five new Brazilian facilitators...
....with a group of ten students. This brings the current statistics to 56 Kairos graduates- representing twenty-seven different congregations, 13 trained facilitators, (one of whom has now facilitated three courses in Brazil), and Kairos has been presented in twenty-four churches- impacting six Brazilian States- all since April 2007.
We were particularly impressed with Junin (16 years old) during his training. He has a developing ministry in prophetic prayer, a passion for the nations, especially China, is a skilled communicator and shows real promise as a facilitator.
Two pastors in Rio de Janeiro have requested three more courses using different formats in late 2008. This will give opportunity to train more facilitators and” go deeper” with the vision.
We spent the first week in Goiania networking with leaders, speaking at meetings and reinforcing existing relationships. Pr Robsom, a Kairos graduate from the first course, helped us open a savings bank account and also...
....he is interested in using Kairos within his congregation of 200 members. Pr Robsom (on the right) and two of our facilitators helped us present Kairos to his group of 30 leaders. We are now planning an intensive 5 day course plus a longer format course for September 2008.
We also met with Wania, a Brazilian missionary on furlough in Brazil. She and her husband are working with WEC based at Bulstrode, Herts. Wania, also a Kairos graduate, arranged with her Pastor for us to present the course to a full congregation in a Presbyterian church in Anapolis- one hour from Goiani.

One other exciting contact was visiting two Kairos graduates based at Pontalina,in the interior of Goias state (about 90 minutes form Goiania). They are directors of PRONASCE, a project working with Portuguese speaking nations including Mozambique and Angola. Pr Alexandre spoke openly of how God has turned his life upside down and given him new direction since he did Kairos. We are currently looking at ways we can work more closely with him. This includes an invitation to some of their Brazilian missionaries in Mozambique to attend a Kairos course in Beira in early July 2008. Jan is hoping to travel to Mozambique with Linda Harding to help with these courses and to promote the partnership.
The main outcome of this trip has been the clear need to continue training facilitators and in seeking a Head Facilitator(s) who could begin to take the course independently and begin to develop a regional centre. Brazil is such a vast country that we need a clear strategy of where to concentrate our efforts. We are planning to divide our time between Goiania and Rio de Janeiro from September through to December this year. This will give us opportunity to run courses with a different format over several weeks and to establish a base in these two cities. This proposed strategy means that we will be unable to continue with our present teaching commitments and therefore we are prayerfully looking to increase our financial support base both here and in Brazil.
We appreciate your continued care, prayers and support. Could we please remind you of our Stewardship Services account which enables tax payers to contribute to our ministry. Richard has the full details.
Thanks so much , Duncan and Jan
