Supporters Letter

Dear everyone,

 

Since out return from Brazil in May 2006 we have been pleased to receive some continuing financial support from individual givers. This has enabled us to begin to establish CursoKairos and to spend short periods of time in Brazil.

 

These visits have by necessity been short, often coinciding with school holidays thus enabling us to work as supply teachers, “tent makers”, to make up our finances . Obviously this has also meant that we have been working almost without breaks.

 

We now feel that to further the progress of the CursoKairos project we need to spend a more concerted period of time in Brazil. This would help us establish a national leadership for CursoKairos. However, there are implications for our finances as we would be unable to augment our income with supply or short- term contract teaching. We are looking for £1,000 extra per month to release us for the next stage. We hope that our Brazilian connections- (both churches and individuals) will help us in this. We have just sent a letter to all our contacts, outlining our needs and giving details of a recently opened Bank account in Brazil. However, realistically speaking we will still need extra help from the UK.

 

We plan to return to Brazil in mid-September and to make arrangements to be there for about eight months in every year- in blocks of four months there and two months here (during holiday periods in Brazil and during this time in the UK Duncan hopes to continue marking exam papers and Jan may be able to pick up some supply teaching). 

 

We will need to set up a small apartment and buy a car. These costs are difficult to gauge as again we hope friends in Brazil may help practically but realistically we know we will need finances from the UK. To realise this next stage we will probably require a base in Brazil for a further two years.
