Wintershall
with Potters Gate year 5
Mrs Whittington, the Head of Potters Gate School, with some of their teachers the FAST team with some of their volunteers and 28 children from year 5 met at Wintershall on the 1st May, unsure if it would pour with rain and drown the proceedings, whether the children would enjoy this special occasion and would there be enough costumes for everyone!
This was not the Wintershall Life of Christ in the usual sense! The children were to see the Stations of the Cross and to act out the scene at each sculpture, ceramic hanging or carving.
Each child had chosen their “character” and thought about who they were, imagined their family and place they lived, the day before at school with Mrs Whittington.
So on arrival with the sun shinning down the children put on their costumes and set off to the first Station, the trial of Jesus.
Pilate looked very stern and spoke with authority Caiaphas was tall and proud and the Roman soldiers were rough and tough!
At each Station Maggie put the children into groups or pairs suggested what they might say and each “scene” was recorded with photos and some video.
Some scenes were extraordinarily moving Mary his Mother meeting Jesus, Veronica wiping Jesus’ face, the women of Jerusalem weeping over the city, and Mary with Mary Magdalene holding the body of Jesus (represented by a white gown) Others were played out in full understanding of the terrible walk Jesus had with his cross, the soldiers unrelenting, the followers scared and sad, Simon of Cyrene unwilling but pulled from the crowd to help, the officials making sure all was done correctly and Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus carrying the “body” to the tomb.
With the sun still shinning (a call from Farnham saying it was pouring down!) we reached the top of the hill and the children gathered at the large white cross and together chanted “He’s Alive!”
What an amazing day it was! The children were fantastic, the helpers (also in costume) were brilliant and the costumes although a little muddy, looked so colourful in the sparkling sunshine.
Mrs Whittington asked if they could wear their costumes back to school as they planned to show what they had done at their assembly the next Friday and to which all the helpers were invited.
So on the 9th May we went to the school and watched the children act out the Passion with sure composure and feeling, many eyes had tears in them. Well done Year 5 and all those who helped make the day (and the follow up) to quote more than one of the children, “One of the best days out ever if not the best!”

Flying Away
On Monday June 9th, the Farnham ASSIST Pie & Pint Club are going on their Annual Outing. After last year’s successful trip along the Mid Hants Watercress Line, we are going to see a very different form of transport this year at the Museum of Army Flying at Middle Wallop. Situated right next to a busy working airfield, the museum has over 35 historic aircraft on display plus a replica 1940s house, a cinema, flight simulator and rifle ranges!
This is an important date in the Pie & Pint calendar and, for many, a rare opportunity to get away for the day. It is also a day for conversations and getting to know each other better. For the first time, we are hiring a minibus so that many of us can travel together rather in separate cars. However, with the ever increasing numbers each month at Pie & Pint, the minibus isn’t big enough to take everyone so some will still be traveling by car. We are very grateful to the Farnham Lions for covering the cost of the minibus hire.
We would appreciate your prayers for the whole day, for safe travel, for enjoyment by everyone and for the many conversations and chats that will take place. And, in next month’s newsletter, there may even be one or two photos of the event! Watch this space!

Over the weekend of 9th-11th May 19 young people aged between 11-13 from Weydon and Heath End school Rock solid groups went on an action packed ‘Fort Rocky’ weekend. The Weekend ran by ‘Youth for Christ’ was based at a PGL activity centre called Carroty Wood in Torquay.
The weekend consisted of Trappezing, quad biking, mountain biking, climbing, giant swings, Aeroball, 70’s discoing, team games and action packed multi-media roadshows looking at the topic of ‘hope’.
The young people all had a great time describing the weekend as ‘awesome’ and ‘like nothing else’. Amongst all of the high energy fun of the weekend there were plenty of deep chats instigated by the young people about topics such as, How can we trust the Bible? Why is there suffering in the world? And how can we be good friends to people?
Through the ongoing work of the Rock Solid groups and drop-ins we aim to continue to create space in a fun and relaxed environment where questions like this can continue to be discussed.
If you would like further information or would like to get involved with the drop-ins, please contact any of the youth team at youthteam@fcct.org.uk or telephone 01252 714414.

Creative Prayer
Some months ago Jane Whittington head of Potters Gate asked if it might be possible to have a Prayer Week at the school.
So, aided by Hugo Anson from Grassroots, the Fast Team set to work.
A practise run at the Weydon Christian Centre proved that the ideas would work and so on Monday 19 th May we arrived at the school to set up a gazebo at one end
of the school’s marquee and a craft area at the other.
The gazebo was filled with furry fabric and bean bags, soft fairy lights and lighted baubles from the ceiling and a wonderful bubble tube which, filled with water and lit with coloured lights would, we hoped focus the children’s thoughts!
An assembly started the day opening up the children’s thoughts to “meeting” God in a tent.
At 12 noon Archie (the puppet) was in place to remind the children the darkened prayer tent was a quiet area and to take off their shoes before going in, and then about 6 at a time in they went! One of the team was responsible for getting the shoes from one end of the tent to the other so the children had them when they were finished!!
Afterwards they moved into the craft area for thought and composing prayers. The children were given a plate that was divided into four to write their prayers on using the words Sorry, Wow, Hope and Please.
We were blessed with fine weather for most of the week so the children and some of the teachers were able to use the area during their lunch break when they wanted.
Unfortunately on Friday it rained and at 12.30 the tent had to be abandoned because water was pouring in and the electrics had to be rescued asap!
However after a closing assembly about how God is everywhere (and each child
receiving a small card with a Bible quote and picture, made by Mair our in house poet!), it was agreed it had been a very successful week.
Thanks to anyone who helped in any way to make this a really memorable time for the children of Potters Gate.

24/16 Connecting with young people in Farnham
24 hours to pray and fast for the young people of Farnham on the 16th June
Working together? Training? Joint Celebrations? Social Action projects? C.U's? Youth Clubs? On Monday 16th June you are invited to join the church of Farnham to pray for the young people in our town. Youth Workers and Ministers have been gathering to pray every month. One of the outcomes of those gatherings is a real sense of wanting to raise the temperature of our prayers. We want to connect with God on how as a church we might improve our connection with all young peopleacross the town. It may be as a congregation or a small group you could get together for an hour and pray. Individuals may want to fast a meal or for the day, if that feels appropriate. Youth groups may want to get together and pray for thier mates. *Farnham has a wide spread of churchmanship styles and for some there is an understanding that God speaks through the Bible, thoughts and pictures. These need to be weighed and where appropriate acted upon. If as an invividual or as a group you feel God is sense God saying something please could you pass that on to your minister or to Steve Delves by phone or email: steve@fcct.org.uk / 01252 714414
