Jan & Duncan Weir have arrived in Thailand
Hi
we arrived safely on Saturday mid afternoon here somewhat delayed due to delays in both Doha and Bangkok. We missed the first session of the training but soon settled in as we received a very warm welcome from the International Kairos team and many National Co-ordinators and Course Co-ordinators. Alexandre had arrived the day before from Brazil and had settled in well.
The first flight delay gave an opportunity to experience a Muslim state in the Middle East even if in an international airport and the second delay was our first experience of Thailand and a Buddhist state.
The first part of our time with the Kairos group has been training and upskilling. It has also given us a wonderful opportunity to meet face to face with many who up til then were names and correspondents on emails and also some of the authors of the Kairos course and materials and those who write prayer requests and news from the Kairos global desk. Our mentor and close friend, Linda Harding, has been leading some of the training.
Today the Consultation will start with a further 100 or so delegates to bring the number to 140 ish representing over 27 of the 30 countries where Kairos is growing. Ron Viner (from Bookham, Surrey) who also is part of the Brasil and Beyond Project has just arrived.
Out hotel is in Chiang Mai second city in Thailand and situated in the north. Pop 1.6 M.
There are many temples and small shrines and it is strange to be completely unable to decipher any of the written Thai notices (I did work out the numbers in Arabic whilst waiting at Doha in Qatar!)
Last night some of us visited a street market held every Sunday evening - buzzing with life
Today was a free day whilst waiting for the other delegates to arrives - a group of us went on an elephant ride which was very exciting.
We are both well if not still a little jet lagged! and enjoying the spicy food!
It is very hot and sticky: nearing the end of the rainy season. The rains are slowing and only this afternoon did we have a tremendously heavy downpour filling the streets with streams of fast flowing water.
Please pray for Mark from Australia who was taken into hospital yesterday with acute appendicitis and his wife Sandy. The hospital is just next door and is good according to the doctor who is part of our Consultation.
Tomorrow is Duncan's birthday! (21st October)
Thank you for your continued prayer support of us. We feel very privileged to be here representing CursoKairos Brasil and to have Alexandre here with us. Our deepening relationship with Alexandre is certainly going to be very significant in the next steps of the Kairos story in Brasil.
Love to all
Jan and Duncan
