Ignite

In June 2008 a few of us gathered in a front room and prayed. We felt God say pray more, so we did. Later that month after a 24 hour fast we felt God say it was time to put together a regular town wide youth service. In January the churches gathered and agreed a way forward and on the 25th April 2009 Ignite began.
At 12 the set up team began the transformation of 40Degreez into a venue fit for purpose. Cleared out & blacked out the main hall was bedecked with banners of green and black, lights and PA.
Upstairs the Chill Out room was covered in red and white, becoming a place of welcome, peace and calm.
Fortified with pizza the team were ready to go. The doors opened and young people from all over Farnham were welcomed with Haribo, drink and donuts. Gemma Henson and Steve Delves opened the evening outlining the vision for Ignite then David Davis and the band from St Johns Stoke led us in worship.
Dael, one of the young people, then told the gathered community about his work with Impact that afternoon. A small band of young people had gone to Chertsey to talk to shoppers there of the situation in the slums of Chenai, and the issues young people and children faced there. For further info head to www.grassroots.org.uk and see some of the ways you can get involved.
Dave Slinn, Director of the Matrix Trust in Guildford spoke about hope and none of us will forget his tale of home surgery with molegrips!
The main session finished with prayer, worship and a sense of commissioning for us to go and be bearers of hope to those around us.
And so then to 'After Hours'. This was from 10 to 11pm for the older ones amongst us. It was an amazing atmosphere, very chilled out with hot drinks, more donuts and good conversation. It was great to have Dave with us for a bit longer chatting with the group.
Overall it was an amazing evening. The feedback has been very positive with young people and youth leaders looking forward to the next one in June.

The new Farnham ASSIST Information Centre in Borelli Yard opened on April 27th. It is a place where older people can pop in and have a chat with one of our Christian volunteers. You can find out more about our monthly lunches, Pie & Pint Club, One to One befriending service, praise & worship services and understanding computers. You can get information on local churches and other organisations working with senior citizens in the area. There is a wealth of information available or you can just pop in for a sit down and a chat.
In addition, Age Concern are in the Centre every Thursday and Citizens Advice are in every other Wednesday, to offer a unique all inclusive service for the Over 60’s under one roof.
A friendly team are on hand to welcome you and we look forward to meeting you.
