Duncan & Jan Weir, Newsletter May 2009
May 25th 2009
Hello everyone, we know you will find the following report of our trip 5 th March – 23 rd April 2009 an encouragement.
Thanks so much for your personal involvement.
BRAZIL _ CursoKairos- The Story so far
...2 years -April 2007 – April 2009- 10 Kairos courses held in Brazil; in Goiana- state capital of Goias, Uberlandia ( Minas Gerais) and Rio de Janeiro city, 140 graduates, training of 26 facilitators + 5 who have not yet facilitated their first course. 28 congregations have participated + YWAM ( in Goiania). Tasters have been held in 26 churches+ YWAM, influencing 6 states and the Federal District of Brasilia.
All generating in the participants a passion for reaching the unreached with the Good News of Jesus. There are still 6. 900 unreached people groups in the world. Peoples living outside the reach of the gospel with no viable church in their culture or Bible in their language. Please pray for the graduates as they begin to pursue their post Kairos pathway as intercessors, senders, mobilizers and go-ers.
Rev 7 v 9 ..........before me was a great multitude, that no-one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and in front of the Lamb.....they cried out in a loud voice, ”Salvation belongs to our God who sits on the throne and to the Lamb”.
Milestone: During our last visit we supervised the FIRST course in Brazil with a Brazilian Head Facilitator and national team of facilitators. This was so exciting – a real sense of achievement.
Brazilian, Kairos HEAD FACILITATORS from JOCUM (YWAM)- Junio and Lorena, are a very gifted couple whose skills and talents complement one another very well. “We believe in Kairos as a wonderful tool for the church”. An exciting post Kairos pathway is that they are leading a team from YWAM to work with an unreached people group in the south of Brazil in June. They are planning to return to South Africa in August 2009.
Brazil National Team building! for Kairos, South Africa!
We co-ordinated 3 courses on the last trip (5th March - 23rd April 2009)
- 5 day intensive with YWAM workers at the Goiania base – 10-14th March with 14 students
- 5 day intensive with ETED/DTS students at YWAM base 14-18 April with 17 students
- 6 evening and 2 Saturdays format with 13 students at Victory Church, Goiania 24th Mar- 7th April
We spent a lot of time mentoring and training our growing team of facilitators.
We also gave 2 Kairos course presentations to churches in Brasilia and visited a large and influential mission training school called Missao de Crista Mundial (MCM) about 40 minutes from Goiania.
Also in our 50 days we spent time refreshing our many friendships in Goiania at Sal da Terra, CMA and Victory Church. This involved a mixture of us preaching, attending meetings, evangelistic events, 2 weddings and other social events- eg.Victory church anniversary, a pop corn and film evening. We had some very good conversations with Paulo Jnr, Pr Julio and Pr Robson re strategy and the future of Kairos.
Future – next steps - Duncan and Jan are planning a return to Goiania in September 2009 to continue working with key facilitators with the aim of establishing a Kairos National Team.
- invitation to run a course with 50+ students at Missao de Crista Mundial ( MCM), a large and influential mission training base just outside Goiania. This could be a major opportunity for the development of Kairos in Brazil.
- 2nd course with the new ETED /DTS students at JOCUM, Goiania + ongoing training of facilitators, including the Director of the base. Luciana, leader of DTS at YWAM, Goiania “I have been looking for a course for the Mission component of DTS for a long time. I am so excited about using Kairos in the last part of our students’ training before we send them out”. Suely is preparing to go to Angola with YWAM and was so thrilled to receive the encouragement from the Kairos course.
- Pr Robson at Igreja Vitoria in Goiania would like a 3rd course + ongoing training of facilitators in his church. “I want everyone in VIP to participate in Kairos and to see mission movements seeded from this congregation”.
- Pr Alexandre is trying to arrange a Kairos course with Pastors and leaders in Pontalina during our next visit. “Please pray for Kairos in Pontalina”.
- 14-19th December – JOCUM National leaders conference, Brazil. This will be a wonderful opportunity to share Kairos with the other Directors with the aim of seeing Kairos launched in other bases throughout Brazil. “I am going to tell everyone about CursoKairos,” Mario Jnr JOCUM Director.
Thank you for your prayers for the development of CursoKairos in Brazil.
As always we are looking for people to partner with us and invest in the Brazil and Beyond Project.
