Duncan & Jan Weir - Newsletter March 2010
12th March 2010
Hi everyone
It is with pleasure and gratitude for answered prayers that I can write that tests show that Duncan’s heart is strong although lacking some oxygen in a small area due to the position of the stent. He is now specifically looking at Duncan’s quality of life and has booked a treadmill stress test for when we return from Brazil. This will indicate any limitations not suitable for normal 60 year old and if Duncan needs more treatment or just to keep taking the tablets!
So we have booked our next flight to Brazil for Wednesday 17th March until 23rd April. We will be facilitating 2 Kairos courses and leading some more training and meeting with the embryonic Brazilian Kairos National Team.
We had a great time in Macedonia in early February with Phil Evans from 24/7 Prayer as the Head Facilitator. Phil and Anna are now living in Skopje. This was the first Kairos course in the capital, we had 11 delegates: 7 Macedonians, 1 Serb, 2 Americans and 1 English. A wonderful mix of people groups- ( see photo to right) The YWAM team came from the West of Macedonia to participate in the course and they now have plans to run the course as part of their DTS Courses.
It was only at the Kairos Europe Consultation in November 2009 that we all dreamed of a course and already Phil tells us there is a buzz about translating the material into the Macedonian language. It was very sobering to hear that there are large areas of Macedonia with absolutely no church! So we are excited that this new country – only 20 years old- wants to embrace Kairos as a tool to help the church birth mission movements to reach the unreached not only in Macedonia but reaching into the Balkan area and beyond. (Photo left:- At the chapel marking the birthplace of Mother Theresa in Skopje.)
Since November we seem to have spent quite a lot of time in Eastern Europe and I‘ve been practising/ stretching my language skills: Hungary with the Kairos Consultation and visiting friends linked with Brazil, Romania to see Rob and Heather, Macedonia for the Kairos including a day in Bulgaria and time in Sofia. Phil has already talked with us about helping on a course in Croatia possibly in October. Last Saturday in Oxford we met business man from Bulgaria whilst at Becky’s Honorary MA graduation and have already been able to link Phil with him. I also met Lina from Sofia, Bulgaria on a Kairos course I was visiting in Berkshire this week. I am dreaming that she may be a facilitator on a course in Sofia one day soon! I love these God connections and divine appointments.
We are travelling back to Romania at the end of May to facilitate a course in English with the mission team in Siria where Rob and Heather are based. We are expecting someone from the Romanian Kairos team to come and help.
We are still praying about a door into Portugal with the Portuguese translation, but it doesn’t yet seem the right time.
This week we met with James (London) from the UK Kairos National Team about Kairos in the south of England. We are planning a themed Kairos day in the Autumn and will keep you informed. Do let us know if you are interested in attending or hosting a Kairos course. www.kairoscourse.org.uk
Please pray for us whilst we are in Brazil :-
- It is the dengue season again! So good health for us both
- Safety whilst travelling and renting a hire car
- For the course in Uberlandia – 20- 27 March – training key facilitators
- For the YWAM /DTS course in Goiania – 13- 17 April
- For our training and meetings with the embryonic Brazilian Kairos National Team
- For God connections and guidance
Many thanks. Please send us your news as well.
We would also love to hear from you if you are able to partner with us to help us financially. It is always a step of faith for us to make plans for the Brazil and Beyond Project. Thanks
Love to you all,
