CHRISTIAN MEDITATION AT ST JOAN’S
During Lent, Jan McGrory a member of the World Community of Christian Meditation, introduced and facilitated four sessions on Christian meditation in St Joan’s Centre.
Christian meditation is a living tradition and discipline of a daily practice of contemplative prayer that came out of the desert mothers and fathers of the 3rd & 4th century who developed it from the teachings of Jesus in scripture.
Meditation is the prayer of the heart and it is a dimension of prayer to which we are all intimately called. In meditation an individual aims to move beyond the level of mental prayer to a level of mystical prayer, to where the Spirit of Jesus himself is praying with us in our hearts. “There is a profound love that flows between Father & Son. In meditation we step into that stream of love and allow ourselves in silence to be carried along with it” (Fr John Main OSB ‘Moment of Silence’).
The four introductory sessions were well attended and the participants agreed to hold weekly meditation sessions at 10.30 to 11.15 on Monday mornings in St Joan’s Centre. These sessions have commenced and will continue throughout the Summer and until further notice. All are welcome. Just turn up.
