Hi everyone
This is just a quick update: as I think you all know, we have been back in Farnham since the beginning of May. The last few months have gone very quickly. We are very much bi-cultural with part of our thinking and praying revolving around Brazil and the other around the UK side of the bridge.
Duncan has settled into a routine (well almost!), of teaching for 3 days a week at Hurtwood House School near Cranleigh. We have been very busy over two recent weekends travelling to France and Hungary visiting mission contacts. We have also been very occupied with the Kairos course ( www.kairoscourse.org.uk). This has led us to Bolton and Loughborough and tomorrow (14 th October), here in Farnham, we hosting a Kairos course taster morning with Linda Harding as the main facilitator. We have also been publicising the course in various venues where we have been speaking such as a Brazilian church in Greenford, Middx, France and Hungary.
The main reason for this letter is to ask for prayer to cover our forthcoming short, visit to Goiania, Brazil. We are travelling this Thursday – 19th October, arriving in Goiania on Friday 20th. Duncan is able stay for 10/11 days over half term to fit in with his 3 days a week teaching timetable. Jan is staying on for an extra week, making a visit of 18 days, returning on 6th November.
We are very excited at the prospect of re-visiting our Brazilian city and re-establishing contact with the various groups there. This has been heightened by recent news carried by Kathryn, our youngest daughter who has also just returned from a short visit to Goiania, which also included visiting friends in Rio de Janeiro and the Amazon- where she helped with a football project and spoke at several youth meetings.
We expect to meet with all our friendship groups in Goiania and participate in several congregations as well as visit the prison, the drug re-habilitation centre, the 24-7 prayer tower and perhaps some schools and colleges. In our luggage, we will be taking the remaining batch of Aids and You books by Patrick Dixon- these will be distributed in various education programmes. We also plan to meet with a team of pastor friends to share about the Kairos course. The course has now been translated into Portuguese and we very much would like to help introduce the course to Brazil early next year. It promises to be a profitable, but very busy time.
Our Brazilian friends Projeto Adora Brasil, have recently released a new music CD- the cover was designed by our Farnham friend, Mike Henson- a good example of sharing resources and talents. We are really looking forward to collecting the CD.
The team, Projeto Adora Brasil, is involved in many social action projects including the prison. They have asked if we can help them with the finance for a lap top computer and also more finance for the prison work. Would anyone like to make a contribution to an offering to this end. Richard Wimbush has details of our bank account. Thanks very much for praying and considering this.
We are also very grateful to those of you who are continuing to support our work.
So, thank you for your prayers. We feel this visit is very important in terms of our future plans.
Duncan and Jan
