Tuesday 7th –
Jan met Anderson Lima, Pete Roe and Rachel at luggage collection – they had all been with Martin Scott in Brazil and we were on same flight but in world traveller section! The long delay in the luggage arrival was excellent opportunity for Jan to chat personally with Anderson re Kairos and what had happened in Goiania and in the Prophetic schools with Martin Scott.
(Saturday 4th November - Duncan went to Bognor Regis, England to the Go to the Nations conference and met with various people from Goiania and Sao Paulo as well as UK – a small world!)
We went to Goiania with 3 main goals in mind and we feel that all these were fulfilled.
- to spend time with our friends and refresh relationships
- to present Kairos taster courses with the view to launching the course in Goiania, Brazil with a team next year.
- to consider whether we had left any deposit from our 2 year 3 months in Goiania and whether there is more for us to do.
We were amazed at how much we achieved in the short time. We were able to meet and spend quality time with all the key people on our “list”. Every single engagement/appointment worked out so well. The use of the car was an extra blessing. We received extremely warm welcomes and receptions everywhere we went – especially from CMA.
It was also a great pleasure to re-visit well known places around Goiania like the parks, Flamboyant shopping centre - even Extra Supermarket!
We were very pleased that for both of us our level of fluency in Portuguese seemed to improve. This was especially true for Jan on the second week as she only spoke Portuguese!
The concept of a Kairos course in Goiania- possibly during the first week of April next year was very well received and Pastors Paulo Jnr, Andre, Julio, Zamir, Euripedes and Adora Brasil all gave their support. We were able to organise and facilitate the translation of the power point Taster presentation and the Kairos publicity leaflet has also been translated- but not colour printed yet. I understand from Anderson that all that remains to be done is the final dubbing of some videos/dvds.
We were in great demand for talks and visits during our stay. Much of this was building on previous work- eg. working with Gilberto on the Aids and You project, the open prison, taking part in meetings at various congregations, also some pastoral work.
The door is definitely open for a Kairos course.
We were greatly encouraged to see how closely Andre is now working with Paulo Jnr and also how Adora Brasil are now working with Marcao from Sal da Terra to create the new youth tribes concept.
The weekly pastors meeting at the Prayer Tower, convened by Paulo Jnr is also a great encouragement to us. Adora Brasil and several youth are also attending this meeting – so it is not just pastors!
We are praying about our next steps. Clearly the concept of “neither here nor there but both here and there” is still a NOW word for us.
We will be talking with Linda Harding, Kairos Co-ordinator for Europe with Responsibility for Development, as soon as possible. We are having lunch with Ron and Marilyn Viner next week and plan to meet with our full Advisory group on November 26th after Colin and Marie Easton return from their trip to Criciuma in Southern Brazil. We also appreciate the input of Martin Scott who is currently still in Brazil having spent several weeks travelling to different areas with the Prophetic school.
Duncan is continues to teach Maths 3 days a week at Hurtwood House near Cranleigh. Jan continues to be involved in initiatives in the local and wider area. She has also been able to do some supply teaching in Farnham.
Thank you for your continued interest and support. We would love to hear from you if you have any comments or questions.
