United Service for One World Week 28th October
ALL TOGETHER NOW was the theme of Churches Together in Farnham’s United Service for One World Week, hosted and led by the Pentecostal Full Gospel Church in Red Lion Lane, Farnham. People of many churches in and around Farnham attended.
One World Week 2007 was a call to unite behind the belief that all people matter and all life matters - that in the face of threats from climate change and from fear and conflict ‘now is the time to act, to cut waste and share more equally the world’s abundance‘.
Hymns and readings from Genesis - exemplifying humankind’s responsibility to care for God’s world - were followed by an address by Michael Hall, who conducted the service. Looking at the way Genesis reveals God's love for the whole of his creation, he said: "We are made in his image, to love and respect our fellow men and women and to be good stewards of his creation." Jesus, when questioned as to what was the greatest commandment, gave a reply (Matthew 22 37-42) which summed up the whole of God's law. "Nearly 2000 years later the Beatles, maybe unwittingly, reduced that answer to five words, 'All you need is Love'."
After the service the congregation was entertained to tea with delicious home-made cakes.
Sunrise Service Easter Sunday 8th April
Farnham Pentecostal Full Gospel Church gave an open invitation to all the congregations in Farnham to join them for the Sunrise Service in Farnham Park. People from a number of churches were present to celebrate the resurrection of Jesus.
Good Friday Walk of Witness 6th April
A group of 255 people from the Church in Farnham walked in silence from outside the University College for the Creative Arts through the town to St Andrew's Church. Revd Michael Hopkins led in prayer and the hymn 'When I survey the wondrous cross' was sung.
It was pleasing to see people from the different congregations in silent procession through the town witnessing to their faith in the Lord Jesus Christ. It was a beautiful day and many people took the opportunity to greet each other before going home.
Week of Prayer for Christian Unity 18th-25th January
The theme for the week was 'Breaking the Silence' based on the passage 'He makes even the deaf to hear and the mute to speak. Mark Ch 7 v 37'
Prayer meetings, of about 12 people, took place at St. Andrew's church led by a different person each day .
A United Service was held at St. Peter's Church in Wrecclesham based on the theme 'Breaking the silence'. A good number of people were in the congregation. The service included two very interesting talks; one on a project with deaf children in Honduras and the other with street children in Guatemala.
