Hi everyone
Our plans for Project Brasil and Beyond are developing well.
We are travelling to Goiania, Brasil next Thursday 16th August to begin the first part of the Kairos course facilitator training and to also run the second CursoKairos in Portuguese, (another 5 day intensive from 27-31st August with a graduation ceremony planned for 1st Sept). Marcel, a Brazilian missionary friend, living in Greenford, London is also travelling with us to help facilitate the course.
Marcel has been helping with the Portuguese sound track to conclude the complete translation of the course. Anderson Lima is also concluding his translation of the final aspects of the training guide. The completion of all the work is a dream come true and we are pleased to be able to use the new materials.
We will conclude our time in Brazil by journeying south to Rio de Janeiro to follow up the taster course we ran there in April and to make plans for a course during the Autumn.
We would very much appreciate prayer for this trip: health and travel safety and for all the administration details and technical aspects of running a course as well as language and communication ability! We also want to continue building up relationships and developing a strong network for the expansion of Kairos in Brazil. We are especially looking to engage with strategic people who will catch the vision and journey with us on the project. We are very grateful to Levy who has been helping us organise this course in Goiania while planning his wedding for August 11th!
We return to Farnham on 6th September and will immediately begin a Kairos course in our home town. We are very excited by this opportunity to share the course with friends in our locality and to see the church in Farnham impacted by Kairos. The course will run as one evening a week over several weeks and conclude on the weekend of 12-14th October. There are still a few places should anyone wish to join the course. Please contact us!
In the Autumn we are fully expecting and planning towards spending about 8 weeks in Brazil developing the project in some new locations. We hope this will include Recife in the North East where we already have a strong contact.
In our last newsletter we stated that we were planning to move our base back to Brazil this Autumn but with further discussions about the correct strategy for the development of the project we feel it is right to keep our main base here in the Farnham. This does not in any way change the overall vision to see Kairos developed in Brazil and to see the Brazilian church mobilised for overseas mission to Least and Unreached People groups. It also means that apart from saving on home set up costs in Brazil, our financial needs are very similar. We will be working full time on the project either here or there and still need to raise our own support We will also need an office base in Brazil and living and travel expenses. We are hoping that the Brazilian church will take up some of this responsibility as the project develops but initially this is a challenge to us.
Maintaining our UK base and travelling to Brazil means we can strengthen both ends of the Bridge. Linda Harding, the UK Director of Kairos would also like us to further develop our links here in the UK especially in the south and London area and into Europe. There is also the possibility of opening Kairos links between contacts in Mozambique and contacts in Brazil thus effecting the “Beyond” part of the project.
We continue to be very excited by all the possibilities this project potentially brings. Please pray for us as we face this challenge and call.
We are still looking to raise financial support for the project. Personal support can be directed through Stewardship Services – please write or email us for a form or enter our web site to download one- www.bridgeforthenations.org.uk Gifts for the project can be directed to Kairos, Cordelia House, Westfield Road, Burley, Leeds LS3 1DG. Cheques can be made to “Kairos” but gift aid donations should be made to “World Outreach” and a gift aid form will be sent for completion.
Many thanks for all your support. Please send us your news too!
Love Duncan and Jan
