Steve Delves, Senior Youth Worker Romance Academy Celebration Evening Calendar
We have been featuring different people who are 'Running with their dream in the Newsletter. We have been doing this in order to get to know a little about them and what their original dream was and how things are progressing. This month I would like to introduce you to Steve who is a Senior Youth Worker within the Youth Team.
STEVE DELVES, SENIOR YOUTH WORKER
I get excited when God is at work. I'm not sure there is any experience better than joining in with what He is doing and watching it unfold. It's not just the big things; it's the smaller stuff as well - the bits where there are so many coincidences that make you realise that something of the Kingdom is happening. Coming to Farnham has been a great example of seeing God at work in this way. Having asked God about changing jobs we found ourselves, after a couple of false starts, traveling back to a town smack in the centre of a series of interlocking circles marking out where we had a dream to work some 10 months earlier. Two local education authorities pointed out that our three children may have to go to separate schools initially when we moved to Farnham. Not the best news to receive given that our twins, Molly and Callum, would be starting school this academic year. Yet as I write this all three of our children start very happily at Hale Primary, excited by Bug Club and a swimming pool! Knowing where the kids were to go to school we then set about finding a house to rent. After a couple of false starts we found a fantastic house that we fell in love with but way out of our budget. Yet after a couple of weeks the same house re-appeared on the internet at a reduced rent; just within budget! Somehow we moved between a 40th birthday (mine) and a gruelling summer schedule of New Wine, Soul Survivor and a 14 day mission to the Townships in Cape Town. Again God's hand was on the family at home and abroad! So here we are. Let me introduce the clan to you. I'm currently starting my 15th year of full time youth work in a Christian context, prior to that I enjoyed the fringe benefits of being a Travel Agent for eight years. I'm half Springbok, half Lion by decent with a passion for youth work, sport, science fiction, illustration and cooking. Amber is a primary school teacher by trade with a love of youth work, people, reading and cooking. Having spent the last seven years in Birmingham we are both returning to our southern roots and the extended family that live nearby. Bethan (7) Molly and Callum (4) are currently losing their Brum accents and are loving big parks and being nearer to their grandparents. We are a family that are committed to joining in with God in the things He's doing, big and small. We find ourselves in Farnham with an expectation of exciting times ahead and look forward to joining in with many of you in the years to come.
Steve Delves
In September 2005 Channel Four aired a programme called 'No Sex Please we're Teenagers'.
Some of you may have seen it; it followed 'The Romance Academy' a course that two Christian youth workers piloted with a group of 12 teenagers in Harrow. The young people were all from different backgrounds. Out of the 12 there was one boy who was a Christian, the others claimed either to have no faith or to have not explored it before. The Romance Academy challenged these 12 young people to take a pledge of abstinence for 15 weeks...an impossible task? During that time they committed to join a group that would challenge them to examine their views on sex, relationships and life. The group was such a success that the two youth workers have helped set up academies all over the country and now have a conference and training scheme available to those who would like to set up an academy in their area. I am exploring the possibility of starting an academy out of one of our drop-in groups (The Cooler or The Pulse) and have asked Rachel Gardener who heads up The Romance Academy to come for a day or two and take us through the training. If you would also like to do the training or would be interested in finding out more please call me in the office 01252 714414 or email me on gemma@fcct.orq.uk.

Celebration Evening
The Team at Farnham Christian Community Trust
warmly invite you and guests to our
Celebration Evening
Monday 8th October St Andrew's Church, Upper Church Lane, Farnham
7.30pm (doors open at 7.15pm)
This is an opportunity to see the work that FCCT is currently involved in around the town. It is also a chance to share your ideas, meander around displays about the work of the teams and talk to the people involved. The evening will include a short presentation and a delicious buffet.

Dear Friends,
You may have noticed that our annual meeting this year has metamorphosed from an 'Annual Review' into a 'Celebration Evening'. We hope that this name is a more accurate description of the mood of the evening! The main purpose of the evening is for you to meet old friends and make new ones, whilst taking time to learn about how the work of the Christian community in Farnham is growing and developing.
The formal presentation will be shorter than in previous years. The major input will be from Berry Ranee, who is the Head of the Waverley Citizens Advice Bureau, and from Jane Whittington, who is the Headteacher of Potters Gate School. They will be describing, from the point of view of the wider community, how the Christian community has made a difference to the quality of life in their organisations.
You will have a child's-eye view of an assembly presented by the Farnham Assemblies and Schools Team, and finally there will be a few minutes of 'speed dreaming'! We feel that EVERY member of the body of Christ has a part to play in building His kingdom. It may be that you are already getting your hands dirty. It may be that you are already building His kingdom but have always thought of it as 'my bit for the community' rather than realizing that it is part of your own special calling. It may be that you are feeling increasingly frustrated and restless "because no one is doing anything about......".
In our experience this is very often the holy restlessness that is a prelude to getting stuck in and doing something yourself. Or it may be simply that you are feeling that "there must be more to life than this", in which case maybe now is the time to begin a dialogue in prayer. Between now and the 8th October, please think and pray on these things. On the night we will invite you to spend just one minute telling your neighbour about whatever it is that God may be calling you to do to make the world a better place.. .to be the hands, feet, eyes, ears and lips of Jesus Christ in Farnham.
