Surrey Waste Partnership

Surrey Waste Partnership (Surrey County Council and the 11 District and Borough Councils) has been running Surrey's own composting campaign since April this year, and since then, residents have snapped-up almost 3,000 cut-price compost bins. It’s estimated these could help divert more than 1,000 tonnes of garden and food waste from landfill, which is the equivalent of filling more than 12 double-decker buses. So it's a great achievement for Surrey.

Our campaign encourages residents to reduce the amount of waste going to landfill and save themselves money, by producing free compost for their gardens. Out of a total 536,000 tonnes of household waste currently produced in Surrey each year, it's estimated that around a third could be composted which would save the county an estimated £8.7 million in reduced landfill and green waste disposal costs each year.

Also, the partnership has been running Surrey's own food waste campaign since May this year.  The county’s campaign aims to raise awareness of the need to reduce food waste in Surrey and in doing so, show householders how they can save up to £50 a month on their food shopping bill.
