Work with Youth With A Mission, Fortaleza, Brazil

aviss-collage3aAvisi will be going to Brazil for at least 2 years to work with a 'Children at Risk' project, My Father's House, as staff and to set up and run a jewellery studio and welding bay which will support the ongoing work with 'Children at Risk' in Fortaleza city.

The aim is to provide discipleship and vocational training through teaching art design, jewellery and large scale architectural metalwork and welding. This will encourage their creativity as a means of expression, raising their self-esteem and giving them practical transferable skills. Perhaps in the future set up a workshop co-operative as a business in Fortaleza.

Avisi will be working with boys who are already in residence on the farm and young people at risk who come from favela Oitan Preto.

In November 2003 - November 2004 Avisi set up a jewellery studio as part of project 'Friendly Hand' which was an after school educational project. (School attendance is 4 hours in the morning or afternoon, this project covers the rest of the day and includes a main meal - sometimes this is the only meal the child will have). In addition to the work on the 'My Father's House' project Avisi will be teaching and training another group of young people who want learn about jewellery making and are committed to learning.
