“Who says you can’t change the world”

Press Release
25th June 2008

Freedom is in the bag!

Buy an ethical shopping bag for only £5 and help rescue a child for life!

Bag and Text copyWith the current trend away from plastic carrier bags people are increasingly looking for quality and hard-wearing permanent equivalents. For only £5, you can not only get a Jubilee Action designed woven shopping bag with an inspiring message, but even better – help to rescue a child from a life in slavery.

“We want to encourage people to make a real difference, that’s why we choose the Who says you can’t change the world? Slogan for our bags,” says Caroline Saunders, Jubilee Action.“By buying a Jubilee Action bag people will be helping rescue a child from the sex industry in India and getting a great useable product, all for only £5.”

With their campaign “Who says you can’t change the world?!” Jubilee Action wants to raise awareness and money for the children trafficked or born into the sex industry in India. Each £5 received from the sale of the bags will be used to help rescue children who have been orphaned or enslaved by the brothel owners in Mumbai. The children are transferred into Jubilee Actions loving homes in a peaceful setting on the outskirts of the city. Here they receive support, care, education and most importantly a life of freedom.

The bags not only have a great design and a winning message, but the production of the bags also helps with reintegrating victims of sex trafficking and modern slavery. Produced under Fair Trade conditions with locally sourced resources to reduce the Carbon footprint, the bags are handmade by survivors of human trafficking in Nepal where the workers are given a safe job and a good income to build up a new life.

Do something amazing today – buy a bag for life and help rescue a child from slavery.

The bags can be purchased at the Jubilee Action stand at the top of Guildford High Street on 28th June, or by contacting Jubilee Action directly per phone: 01483 230 250 or email: chrissavage@jubileeaction.co.uk.

About Hatti Trading: www.hattitrading.co.uk

Since 2005 Hatti Trading has been making a difference to stigmatised and disadvantaged young women in Nepal through Fair Trade employment in the production of beautifully made hand bags. At the Hatti production centre in Kathmandu, young women who had been trafficked as children and subsequently rescued are employed under fair trade conditions. After a time of rehabilitation and as soon as there is a permanent vacancy, the older girls (min age 17) are offered the opportunity to work at the production centre. They are provided with safe, secure accommodation with a house mother to care for them and trained at the production centre. They are paid a good monthly wage, holiday, sickness, hospital fees and maternity pay and helped to adjust to life. This is a successful demonstration of Aid and Fair Trade working together to help change the lives of young women for the better, permanently.
